It was in 1964 that André Robillard assembled his first rifle, using scotch tape and wire to hold together objects salvaged from rubbish heaps. Thanks to the psychiatrist Paul Renard, Jean Dubuffet discovered and acquired that piece, adding it to his collection of Art Brut objects. This marked the start of a prolific adventure: for fifty years, André Robillard has been creating firearms, planes, sputniks and animals in wood. He also enjoys drawing, and plays the harmonica, the accordion, and an instrument of his own invention, a "cartridge pail."
